Preparation
Fill the large bowl with a litre of water and add the juice of half the lemons.
Wash the apples thoroughly, remove the core in the middle with an apple corer and then cut the apples into slices as thin as possible (3-5 mm). Immerse the sliced apples in the lemon water in the bowl as you go along to prevent them from turning brown. If you like, you can add a pinch of cinnamon at this point. Once all the apples have been sliced, drain the apple slices from the lemon water on a spread-out kitchen towel. In the meantime, place a layer of baking paper on the oven rack. Then spread the apple slices on top.
Set the oven to 60 °C fan oven, place the rack with the apple slices in the middle and dry for approx. 6 hours. To allow the moisture to escape from the oven, place a wooden spoon in the oven door.
OR string the apple slices at intervals on a piece of string and hang them on a clothes horse in a very dry, warm room, for example. It will take a few days to a week for the apple rings to dry. However, you won't use any electricity!
The dried apple rings are an ideal healthy snack for between meals or can be used as an ingredient in muesli or cakes.
Our jar recommendation
A square Fido jar with a wide opening (e.g. 870 ml) is best suited for easy snacking and safe storage of healthy snacks for between meals.
